Meet Makius Scott! Makius is a senior at Gainesville and looking forward to playing football at the University of South Carolina as a defensive end in 2020. Makius, standing in at 6’3 and just over 300 pounds, is tough to miss around Hall County. With multiple offers and interest from multiple Division 1 football programs including; Boston College, Louisville, Syracuse, and most recently Oregon; where Makius was flown to the university for his official visit. Makius is well known around the country, but also in the community, he is known as a great teammate and leader throughout his years at Gainesville High School.
Question: What led you to play football over other sports?
Answer: “It was always the sport I played growing up and almost everyone in my family used to play. I also played basketball until this year I stopped.”
Q: What was your trip to Oregon like?
A: “It was a really cool experience for me and my mom, I’ve never been that far from home so that was pretty different. We were there for three days and had a great time seeing the campus and different facilities.”
Q: What made you choose the University of South Carolina over other schools?
A: “As soon as I stepped on the campus it felt like home, I also have a great bond with the coaches and players at South Carolina. It’s also nice to have the opportunity to play as a freshman when I get there.”
Q: What has been your favorite football game in high school?
A: “The Flowery Branch game for sure, it’s a rivalry game and I also have friends on the other team; Chase and Chan Watson. I’ve been friends with them forever and they’re like my brothers, so it’s always fun to play them and show out.”
Q: How long have you lived in Hall County?
A: “I’m 17 and I’ve lived here all my life, so 17 years.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now where would it be? And why?
A: “I really could use a beach trip right now, so any beach would be nice.”
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: “This is a hard choice, but I’d go with the ‘Remember the Titans.’”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “It used to be to get to the college level, but we’ll see where it goes from here. In college, a goal I’ve always wanted to achieve is Freshman All-American.”
Q: What current or former local business makes you most nostalgic about Hall County?
A: “Hobbs, they’ve always hooked us up with gear all of high school.”
Q: Choosing any active or inactive NFL player who would have lunch with? And where?
A: “Ray Lewis at Wild Wings.”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Hall County?
A: “The people and fan base we have here are unlike anyone else. On Friday nights we’re always the loudest even if we’re winning or losing. That’s definitely my favorite part and what I’ll miss the most about when I leave Gainesville.”
Q: What three words or phrases that come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “Family, loyalty, and trust.”
