Meet Marty Jones Harr! Marty is married to Gary Harr and they have five children between them. Marty has a long career in education. She loves to travel, spend time at the beach, and has a terrific eye for style.
We want to thank Marty for spending time with us recently and telling us more about her life and love of our community.

Question: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
Answer: “I have been an elementary aged school teacher for the last 24 years. I currently work at New Holland Elementary School where I teach 4th grade. I absolutely love teaching. Being in a classroom each day allows me to grow and learn beside my students. My hope is to encourage and inspire children to dream. Dreams lead to big ideas and bright futures. I want to make that difference to inspire and nurture confidence and positivity in a child’s life.”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “El Tepache Mexican Grill, Inn Between Deli, Blue Fin.”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
A: “I moved to Gainesville in 2001.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A: “Brad Abernathy…Couldn’t resist.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “Italy because I had plans to visit for my 50th birthday but Covid caused the trip to be cancelled.”

Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: “Do what you love because life is short and If you don’t enjoy the work you’re doing then it’s not worth doing.”

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: “Gainesville is much larger than the South Georgia community where I grew up, but still manages to have a small town feel. The location puts mountains, Atlanta, and Lake Lanier in your back yard.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “Retired living in a small beach town with my husband.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Visit the islands of Greece.”

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
A: “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers or Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music.”

Q: In hard times we can sometimes see and recognize greatness in those around us. Hard working. Positive attitudes. Helping on the front lines. Who is one of our local shining lights today?
A: “Abit Massey.”

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
A: “South of France.”

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: “October, Halloween, Saturdays.”

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: “A lazy afternoon curled up on the couch in front of a fire with a good book. A breezy afternoon on the beach with blue skies sunshine; anything that makes me laugh really hard.”

Q: Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?
A: “Jennifer Anniston.”

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
A: “Chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. Fresh brewed coffee in the morning with bacon frying on the stove.”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “The students in my classrooms.”
