Meet Marie Matthews! She is a senior at Gainesville High School and plans to attend Georgia College and State University in the fall. Her parents are Robert and Elisa Matthews. 

Question: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Answer: “My mother’s name is Elisa Matthews and my dad’s is Robert Matthews. I also have a twin brother named Henry. A lot of my dad’s side of the family has lived here their whole life including my grandmother Madge Harper.” 

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: “I plan to attend Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA. I’m not 100% certain on what I want to major in, but I want to go into the business and marketing area, and maybe fashion merchandising.” 

Q: What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “I love Senor Fiesta and Bluefin. They are always my go-to when I want to go out to eat.” 

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “I’ve always wanted to go to Greece, more specifically Santorini. I think it is such a pretty place and one of my favorite movies is ‘Mama Mia’ so I could pretend I’m in the movie.” 

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: “My favorite movies are ‘Mama Mia’ and ‘The Parent Trap,’ and my favorite TV shows are ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Gossip Girl.’” 

Q: If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
A: “I would tell them to have fun while it lasts because it goes by so fast. When I was a freshman everyone always said it’ll go by in the blink of an eye but I never believed them until it was actually here. I would also tell them to work their hardest because it’ll pay off in the end.” 

Q: If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
A: “I would cast myself in ‘Vampire Diaries.’” 

Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
A: “I would have lunch with Taylor Swift because I love her music. We would go to The Colliegate.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community?
A: “The small town feels and how everyone’s pretty nice.” 

Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “Graduating from college.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Skydiving.” 

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: “Taylor Swift or country music. I like Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, and Riley Green the most.” 

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: “My favorite month is July, my favorite holiday is Christmas, and the best day on the calendar is Dec. 25 and July 4.” 

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: “A pretty sunset on the beach with. The kind where the sky is orange and purple and pink.” 

Q: What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
A: “Travel a lot.” 

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “My mom, she’s always so nice and caring to everyone.”
