Meet Gwendolyn Bell! Gwendolyn is the owner and sole proprietor of Baby Bell Candy Apples in Flowery Branch. She goes by Gwen and is married with four grown children and two grandbabies. Gwen and her husband originally started making candy apples as a hobby back in 2017 and have watched it mature into the successful business that is Baby Bell Candy Apples.
We want to thank Gwendolyn for spending time with us recently and telling us more about her life and love of Hall County.
Question: What Inspired you or led you to your current career?
Answer: “I started out as this being a hobby and then once people started asking for me to make them I felt like this could be a career; and that’s exactly what led me into this direction. ”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County, and what do you love there?
A: “I’m going to have to say Chili’s. It is our favorite little spot we like to go to because of the atmosphere, and we have grown to know the employees there. They know us by name, we don’t even have to order our drink now they just know what we want. It’s just a fun, family oriented atmosphere.”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Hall County?
A: “I have lived in Hall County pretty much all my life; so we’ve been in Hall County over 40 years.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Hall County and why?
A: “I would have to say my aunt Faye Bush. She was the woman over the Newtown Florist Club, and she’s done a lot for the community.”
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: “One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up back when we used to get a good bit of snow. Me and my sisters, we had a sled back then, we went down this big hill, got to the curve, and my sister jumped off. She left me on there to hit a mailbox. Luckily the snow was thick so I didn’t get hurt.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “One of the places I would love to go to is Bora Bora. Just somewhere we can go and relax by the water.”
Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: “It might’ve been ‘Coming to America.’”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I don’t even write a bucket list, so there’s nothing on the bucket list. I’m not the big spontaneous type so I’m not parachuting, I’m not paragliding, I’m not jumping out of anything, I’m not going down into nothing so I don’t have a bucket list.”
Q: What is your favorite music/three bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: “My favorite music is R&B.”
Q: Choosing anyone (past or present and a non-relative), with whom would you love to have lunch? And where locally would you have this lunch?
A: “Michele Obama, she would be one of the one’s I would love to have lunch with. Locally, we’d go to Antebellum. It’s a nice upscale restaurant we can just go and chit chat away.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?
A: “Mostly the community, the people. It’s a tight-knit community; that’s one thing that I love about Hall County.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years?
A: “Expanding our company from one to about three locations. We actually just got the keys to a building in downtown Flowery Branch.”
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I have a good sense of humor.”
Q: What three words mean “home” to you?
A: “Family, Love, Support.”
Q: If you were cast in a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your costar, who would you choose?
A: “Me and my husband are going to have to costar together on this one. We’re going to have a good time on this one.”
Q: If you had a full-time staff member for your business that was fully paid for, who would you choose?
A: “It would be nothing but my family, because we’re so big on family and that’s what we planned on doing.”
