Interview by Ragan Allgood, Gainesville High School senior and Next Boulevard intern

Meet Emma Clark and Cohen Echols! They are seniors at North Hall High School where they recently won Homecoming King and Queen! Cohen’s parents are Drew and Shelly Echols, and he has a sister Chloe. Emma’s parents are Dixie and Cory Clark, she has a sister, Macy and brother, Cole.

We want to thank Cohen and Emma for spending time with us recently and telling us more about their lives.  

Question: Please tell us about your family.

E: “They’re always excited to see me at the games and to come support me. I’m getting crowned for homecoming, so they’re all there for me – my friends, my family, and even my church, Soul Creek.”

C: “I love my mom. I live with my dad, my sister, and our two dogs.”

Q: How did you feel about winning Homecoming Queen and King? 

E: “I was happy, I guess those were happy tears.”

C: “Oh, I felt excited!”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?

E: “I’d say Universal Studios, like in Florida. We are going  during fall break.”

C: “Bahamas.”

Q: Where’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?

E: “Pigeon Forge.”

C: “Montana.”

Q: Do y’all plan on going to college? What do you plan on doing after high school?

E: “I’m going with my friend, Clara Bowen. I’m not going to college, actually. I’m going to help her as her assistant, she’s in hair school.”

C: “I want to  go to college at the University of Georgia.”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community? 

E: “My favorite one is LongHorn Steakhouse. I always get chicken there.”

C: “I love Burger King. I always order a Whopper.”

Q: Who would you say inspires y’all? Who do you look up to at school?

E: “The teachers. We actually do math and science and stuff like that – it’s really good. I would say Dale Fletcher is my favorite teacher.”

C: “Same – Dale Fletcher. He’s always funny.”

Q: In your free time, what do you like to do?

E: “I usually hang out with my grandparents.”

C: “I’m usually on my phone.”

Q: What is your favorite movie? 

E: “Mine is ‘Zombies 4.’”

C: “‘Superman.’”

Q: Do you have a favorite TV show?

E: “Mine is ‘Full House.’”

C: “I watch the news sometimes.”

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do? 

E: “I like cheerleading, it’s really good. I’ve got more spirit and a bigger smile now. Since our coach told us we can do things like that, we’ve been making our moves sharper and better. We just keep trying.”

C: “I like to watch football.”

Q: Who are your best friends?

E: “One of my best friends is Kaylie Wingo. She’s one of my closest friends. Her mom and my mom were best friends, so that’s kind of how I got my best friend. And Cohen is my best friend, too.”

C: “Buddy Clark.”

Q: What is your favorite song to listen to?

E: “Mine is ‘All the Lights’ (by Kanye West).”

C: “‘My house’ (by Flo Rida).”

Q: What’s your favorite holiday? 

E: “I like Christmas, but I like fall right now.”

C: “I like the whole summertime.”
