Meet Jocelyn Nguyen! Jocelyn is a senior at Gainesville High School. She plans to attend Mercer University in the fall.
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
“My parents are both immigrants from Vietnam. My dad works from home and my mom is a nail technician at Solara Sol. I also have an older brother.”
What are your plans after graduation?
“After graduation, I am attending Mercer University to complete my Bachelor’s in Nursing.”
What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
“Zen Ramen and Sushi Burrito and Atlas Pizza.”
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
“I would want to travel to Vietnam because of the incredible scenery, deep history, and to see my family.”
What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“My favorite movie is ‘Remember the Titans.’ My favorite TV show is ‘Friends.'”
If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
“I would say to ‘discipline yourself, dream big, and expect the unexpected.'”
If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
“I would want to be in ‘Friends.'”
If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
“I would choose to have lunch with my grandma. I would like to have lunch with her because I want to learn more about her story. There is a big language barrier between my grandma and I, which causes us not to have deep, meaningful conversations. I would take her to Texas Roadhouse because she loves the steak there.”
What is your favorite thing about our community?
“I love how our community can all come together in hard times as One Gainesville.”
Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
“I see myself having a stable job, while still going to school for my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. I also see myself living in a united community. Over the next five years, I want to have gained experience in leading community service projects and expand my responsibilities in my community.”
What is something on your bucket list?
“I want to go bamboo rafting.”
What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
“Bruno Mars.”
Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
“My favorite month is September. My favorite holiday is Christmas. The best single day on the calendar is June 15th.”
What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
“Sleeping.”
What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
“I want to go hug my entire family, including extended family.”
Who inspires you to be better?
“My parents.”
