INK is celebrating their 15th anniversary on Aug. 26!
To celebrate 15 years of children’s fun, exploration and learning there will be exciting activities including birthday crafts, a youth makers market and a birthday cake at INK from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
General admission is $8/person with Celebration Activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you haven’t been to INK, or it’s been a while since your last visit, INK is a children’s museum that features many hands on exhibits like a dentist office, grocery store, bank, pizza restaurant, Paint-Your-Own Pottery Studio and more; to encourage activity and imagination.
Beyond offering exhibits for children, and grown ups alike, INK is open to the public and available for field trips and parties.
One of the newer exhibits at INK, the Imagination Playground, is a play space that encourages open play with large, light weight blue blocks. Other new exhibits include a new music room that includes instruments for children to play with, a yoga station created by Emilie Cook, owner of Find Your Center Yoga in Gainesville. There also is a family playhouse, medical clinic, a grocery store, and a beauty salon. In addition they have a Paint-Your-Own-Pottery studio where you and your children can easily paint your own pottery.
The space, which was made possible by a grant from Kaboom.com, Snapple and Dr. Pepper, also was designed to encourage learning, social development and movement.
Another exciting event coming up is INK’s Butterfly Craft Week, Aug. 28-Sept. 3. During the week children can create their own butterflies by using recyclable materials.
Recently, we asked INK’s executive director, Mandy Volpe a few questions about INK and upcoming events.
Question: What are the most popular exhibits?
Answer: “The Grocery Store, hospital and 50s diner.”
Q: Are any new exhibits planned?
A: “The 911 Exhibit just opened. Earlier this year we welcomed the Healthy Habits Exhibit. We are in the midst of creating a Military Services Exhibit.”
Q: Are there any fall events at INK you would like to mention?
A: “Aug. 26 is our 15 year celebration from 11-2. Sept. 24 is Emergency Preparedness Day from 1 to 4 p.m. with free admission to the museum. Each week we have themed crafts. In December, we will have a ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ celebration to usher in the new year.”
