Meet Kate Abernathy! Kate is a senior at Gainesville High School and will be attending Berry University in the fall. Her parents are Brad and Jill Abernathy and she has one sister, Sadie.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
“I have a mom, dad, and one older sister. My dad is the creator of The Faces Of. My sister goes to Georgia Tech. My mom is my inspiration – I have always wanted to be as cool as her.”

What are your plans after graduation?
“To go to Berry College and get a degree in Early Childhood Education.”

What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
“Collegiate and Two Dog.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
“Italy to see all the beautiful historical places and to eat the amazing food.”

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“The original Star Wars Trilogy.”

If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
“Focus on your studies but don’t give yourself too hard of a time cause you’re a kid still and you can only do that once.”

If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
“The Walking Dead.”

If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
“Oprah because I just really love her and it was either between her, Michelle Obama, or Dolly Parton. I’d take her to Two Dog so she could eat something delicious but also healthy and she could have bread.”

What is your favorite thing about our community?
“The diversity.”

Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
“Successful teacher with, hopefully, a family.”

What is something on your bucket list?
“Visit more of Europe, go to Australia, and go to Japan.”

What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
“Troye Sivan, Taylor Swift, or LANY.”

Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
“October. Tied between Christmas and Halloween. Typically around May 15th cause school is ending and summer is about to begin.”

What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
“Me.”

What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
“Spend a whole day hanging out with my Grandpa.”

Who inspires you to be better?
“My parents, grandparents, and especially my sister.”
