Meet Maura Ostrander! Maura is a senior at East Hall High School. She plans to attend the University of North Georgia in the fall.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
“I live with my mom and my dad and I have two older siblings, one sister and one brother. I also have a 5 year old niece who is the light of my life.”

What are your plans after graduation?
“I plan to attend UNG in the fall and double-major in Nursing and Education.”

What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
“La Casa Del Taco and Nichols Diner, 10/10 would definitely recommend.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
“New York City. I’ve been doing theatre for seven years so I was always drawn to the city because of the theaters. I went for the first time last year right before the pandemic hit and I absolutely loved it. It felt like a home away from home.”

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“My favorite movie is ‘Me Before You’ and my favorite TV show is ‘Gilmore Girls,’ those have been my answers for years and I don’t think they will ever change.”

If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
“It sounds cliche but I would tell them to not take the time they have for granted. When you’re in kindergarten, you think you have all the time in the world and that school will take forever, but it doesn’t. It goes by in the blink of an eye so they need to hold on to it very tightly.”

If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
“‘This Is Us.’ There are a lot of shows that I would love to put myself in but that’s the one I thought of first that I would enjoy.”

If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
“Matthew Gray Gubler. Hands down. I love everything about him and I feel like we would have a really good time together. I would probably choose La Casa Del Taco to meet at. It’s delicious and I recommend to anyone and everyone who asks.”

What is your favorite thing about our community?
“I like that it is close enough to both the big city of Atlanta while also being close to the mountains. It’s a win-win situation.”

Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
“I’m not quite sure exactly, I don’t know the exact path God will take me on but what I do see is that I will be happy. I will be surrounded by the people I love and that is all I know for sure right now.”

What is something on your bucket list?
“I want to visit Scotland.”

What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
“One Direction. They’re my absolute favorites.”

Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
“Favorite Month is November. Favorite Holiday is Christmas. Best single day on the calendar is Aug. 20, which is my birthday.”

What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
This is kind of biased but, Viking Vision Theatre Group (The EHHS Theatre program).”

What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
“Go to a concert. I miss the energy and the vibe of them so much.”

Who inspires you to be better?
“My wonderful parents, my niece and myself. I strive to be better everyday for them.”
