Meet Julianna Velaj! Julianna is a senior at Flowery Branch High School and plans to attend Georgia Tech in the fall.
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
“I am the youngest of three daughters. My father is from Albania and my mother is from Germany. My family and I are extremely close, and are like each other’s best friends. They’ve always pushed me to success and helped me get to where I am now.”
What are your plans after graduation?
“I plan on attending Georgia Tech. I am going to major in Public Policy with a minor in something under International Affairs.”
What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
“Napolis and Shogun.”
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
“I would definitely love to travel to South Korea! I’ve always been intrigued with the East Asian culture, and find their culture and customs really interesting. Besides being a beautiful, the people & community is something I would love to learn more about!”
What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“My all time favorite movies are Harry Potter movies. My favorite TV show is probably Criminal Minds and Greys Anatomy.”
If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
“If I could give advice to my peers, I would try and tell them to enjoy every day while it lasts. Even the most stressful days, just remember they will eventually pass. The last years of high school go by in a blink, and it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to all your childhood friends. But enjoy these times while you can, and stay on top of your school work. You’ll thank yourself in the long run!”
If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
“Criminal Minds.”
If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
“I would definitely love to eat with Harry Styles. I’ve loved him and his music since I was a little girl, and have always been obsessed with him. I would probably take him to Château Elan.”
What is your favorite thing about our community?
“I love how close everything is, and how there is a little bit of everything in each area. The people in my community are also very close and genuinely care about each other and the environment that surrounds them.”
Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
“In five to 10 I see myself graduating college, and starting my new life in Law School. After Law School, I hope to work in a big law firm & become one of the top lawyers.”
What is something on your bucket list?
“Definitely traveling to more countries and learning new languages like Korean or German!”
What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
“Either Harry Styles or BTS.”
Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
“Favorite month is definitely June, since it’s my birthday month. Favorite holiday is of course Christmas, since my whole family is together. Best single day on the calendar is the 3rd of any month, because my favorite number is 3.”
What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
“Music.”
What is something you want to do as soon as this pandemic is finished?
“Travel out of the country or go to a concert!”
Who inspires you to be better?
“My mother.”
