Collage of sculptures at The Quinlan Garden in Gainesville, Ga. The Quinlan Visual Arts Center has been a hub of art and expression in Gainesville for 50 years and just this month expanded the center with a sculpture garden.
The Quinlan Garden, funded by the Scarlett Rhodes Jones Foundation, is a collection of eight sculptures along with an outdoor event space.
Each sculpture is different and unique; take the “Loving You” sculpture for example; the bronze sculpture depicting a father swinging young child was created by artist Gregory Johnson. The sculpture was created in memory of Jones’ son, J. Brent Jones.
There are three fun pieces placed around the garden that are assemblage pieces; two metal flowers and a warrior woman. On the side of the garden closest to the main building is an angel sculpture, looking as if to keep watch over the garden.
Another beautiful piece is the Friendship Bench that was placed in the garden in memory of Jody Bacon Law.
The Quinlan Garden is open to the public and a nice way to spend some time outdoors and take in the beauty of the artwork surrounding you. Event space in the garden is available to rent and you really couldn’t choose a more beautiful spot for a special event in Gainesville.
The Quinlan is an affiliate of the Arts Council and the annual Art in the Square festival. In addition to event space and art exhibitions the Quinlan offers summer art camps for children and a large Members; Exhibition of over 20 exhibitions each fall.
The Quinlan Visual Arts Center is located on 415 Green St. in Gainesville. The arts center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information on the Quinlan Visual Arts Center please visit www.quinlanartscenter.org.
