Meet Sam White! Sam was born in Monroe and moved to Gainesville in 2012 to marry wife, Lauryn. The couple has one daughter Charlotte, who just turned 4. He works  full time for Skyline Contracting in Gainesville and joined the National Guard in 2010 and commissioned as an Intelligence officer in 2011.
Sam was deployed to Afghanistan this past December with the Georgia Guards 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
“I am currently the commander of the Military Intelligence Company for the brigade which provides various intelligence and analysis capabilities. My company was spread all over Afghanistan and I worked out of Train Asvise Assist Command East at Jalalabad Airfield. I also worked as an advisor, working with Afghan partners,” he said. “Following this deployment I will return to Gainesville where I will continue working in sales for Skyline Contracting.”
Sam will return to Gainesville via Fort Stewart on July 8!

Question: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
Answer: “I wanted to join the military since I was a kid. I joined the Georgia Army National Guard while in college which helped pay for some of my school. I am currently deployed with them to Afghanistan but will soon return to my civilian career with Skyline Contracting in Gainesville where I work in sales.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County, and what do you love there?
A: “It’s a tie between Fajitas, where I love the Carne Asada tacos, or anything from Poor Richards.”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Hall County?
A: “I moved to Gainesville in 2012, married my beautiful wife Lauryn and have lived there ever since.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Hall County and why?
A: “Scott Smith. He has impacted the lives of so many in the community and sets a great example for parents and husbands.”
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: “My family was fortunate enough to take some great vacations when I was growing up. One of my favorites was to Tortolla.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “My wife, Lauryn, has always wanted to go to Scotland, I would love to go there with her. I’ve also always heard how awesome New Zealand is, so maybe there too.”
Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: “That’s a tough one, I honestly can’t remember. Growing up in the 90s though I’m sure it was a Disney hit.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Don’t follow the crowd or the popular opinion because it’s the easy way. Do what you know is right even if it’s not the easy or popular thing to do.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Travel all over the world. I’ve got a few places in mind, but ultimately I’d like to visit as many places as possible.”
Q: What is your favorite music/ three bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: :The Allman Brothers, Dave Matthews Band, Sublime.”
Q: What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Hall County and why?
A: “Poor Richards. They have always been the same since I can remember going there. The quality of food, atmosphere and service never change.”
Q: Choosing anyone (past or present and a n on-relative), with whom would you love to have lunch? And where locally would you have this lunch?
A: “That’s tough but I would have to say maybe President George W. Bush. I think a lot went on while he was president that would be interesting to talk about. I would probably have to go The Collegiate.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?
A: “There are always familiar, friendly faces just about anywhere you go. There are some great people throughout Hall County. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many of them and look forward to getting to know even more.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years?
A: “Living happily with my family, enjoying life as much as possible.”
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I did stand up comedy in a talent show in 10th grade. I don’t remember much of the jokes but the crowd was into it. Good times.”
Q: What three words mean “Home” to you?
A: “Family, safety, comfort.”
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: “Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio. I like most of his stuff and I’m pretty sure we would make an awesome movie.”
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?
A: “Someone from high up within Chik-Fil-A. If I could run my life as efficient as they run their business I would be set.”
