Meet Adam Hicks! Adam is a lawyer in Gainesville and is married to Jennifer; the couple has five children together. One of their favorite restaurants is Avocados, where they have date night once a week.
We want to thank Adam for spending time with us recently and telling us more about his life and love of Hall County.
Question: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: “I have been married to Jennifer Hicks for over 18 years. We have a yours, mine, and ours blended family of five children ranging in age from 16-28. We have one grandchild with one on the way. I am the youngest of five boys and my parents are 88 and 80 and still healthy and living here in Hall County.”
Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
A: “I am the founding partner of Lanier Law Group here in Gainesville and have tailored my practice to focus on estate planning and all probate matters. We have specific experience helping with the complex and difficult issues presented with blended families.”
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “Jennifer and I can usually be found at Avocados on Wednesday nights for our weekly date night.”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
A: “My family moved to southern Hall County when I was 8 and I graduated from Johnson High School. I was away from Gainesville/Hall for 13 years while attending the Naval Academy, serving in the U.S. Navy and attending law school. I came back to the area after graduation from law school and began my legal career as an Assistant Solicitor in Hall County State Court. I then joined Stewart Melvin & Frost as an associate working under my great mentor Woody Stewart learning estate planning.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A: “Woody Stewart was a great mentor to me and I miss him often.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “One of the trips on my bucket list is fishing trip to Patagonia.”
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: “I am fan of the Outlander series, ‘The Notebook,’ and the John Wick movies.”
Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: “Professionally – I advise people that there are many things they should learn about the dangers of not planning for what will happen to the loved ones and their assets if something should happen to them. Personally – I advise people to always be learning, studying and being purposeful about having some fun in their lives.”
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
A: “I miss Professor’s baked potatoes!”
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
A: “I have always wanted to have margarita with Jimmy Buffet! I would take him to Avocados to sit outside on a night when Rodney Appleby is playing. (Rodney doesn’t play at lunch so it would have to be dinner).”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: “I love how giving this community is. Pre-Covid you could pretty much count on a major fundraiser about once a quarter and this community always responds and gives generously!”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “Right here in Gainesville still serving and educating our community on estate planning and probate needs with our amazing team here at Lanier Law Group.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Expedition style fishing trip to either Alaska or Patagonia.”
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: “Mandolin Orange.”
Q: In hard times we can sometimes see and recognize greatness in those around us. Hard working. Positive attitudes. Helping on the front lines. Who is one of our local shining lights today?
A: “Our medical community has been amazing throughout these challenging times and we are blessed to have such a strong community here in Gainesville!”
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
A: “That’s a hard one because there are a lot to choose from – but certainly one of the top choices would be some of the cloudless and moonless nights on the Atlantic Ocean during the midnight watch on a U.S. Navy ship. The stars were breathtaking!”
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: “Thanksgiving.”
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: “I do love standing in a trout stream holding a nice fish I just caught!”

A: “Believe it or not there is a Disney actor named Adam Hicks. Seems like an obvious choice but I have no idea what kind of actor he is.”
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
A: “Fresh baked cookies.”
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “I am blessed to have several mentors both here in our community and in my estate planning community around the country. I have also been inspired recently by reading several books such as ‘The One Thing’ by Gary Keller.”
