Meet Adam Lindsey! Adam is the athletic director at Gainesville High School, he is married to Abbey (a local photographer) and the couple has two children: Jake, 16 and Avery, 14.

We want to thank Adam for recently spending time with us and telling us more about his life and love of Hall County.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

“I’m originally from Jacksonville, Fla. My parents moved up here when I was in late middle school and I graduated from Duluth High School, I went off to college at Georgia Southwestern, and then started teaching all over.”

Question: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Hall County?

Answer: “The sense of community. I mean, every where you go, everybody cares about what’s going on and wants to help take care of each other. That’s the best that anybody could ask for when they’re moving to a new place.”

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County?

A: “Atlas Pizza is our go-to. Also, Poor Richards is really, really good. And then you can’t argue with Longstreet, it’s our breakfast restaurant.”

Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?

A: “Maybe ‘E.T.’ It’s hard to think back that far. ”

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: “Most people don’t know that I’m from Florida and number two, I took a couple of years off in the middle of education and went and built houses. I worked for a developer for almost two years and built 37 houses there. They were all college rentals, but I got to get a lot of different experience getting out of education for a couple of years.”

Q: Can you give us an update on the new construction at Gainesville High School?
A: “The first main building is almost done. There’s the advanced studies building, which is our new career technology building. It’s going to have a two construction labs, engineering lab and manufacturing lab and an early childhood education lab upstairs. It has two healthcare science labs, advance placement science labs and then a seminar classroom. That building is supposed to be done sometime in May so it’s coming along very quickly. They’ve also started the new cafeteria and media center. They’re hoping to have it done in early August. Ground also has been broken on the new athletic complex.”

Q: What inspired you to get into education?

A: “Honestly, athletics was not really part of my original conversation. I was just going to teach as I enjoyed helping others and doing that. I actually started at an elementary school, there was an assistant principal that I became pretty good friends with and he asked if I ever thought about getting into coaching. I reached out to the high school football coach and started working there and just fell in love with it. I ended up moving to the high school within the next year to teach there. At that point, I was in love with being a football coach.
“From there I moved to Campbell High School, then moved to Northview High School and to Riverwood High School, Worth County, then to Jackson County.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Hall County?

A: “There’s a lot of interesting characters in Gainesville. Probably Kris Nordholz, just having somebody like him who is from Gainesville, born and bred here and goes and plays basketball at Georgia and comes back and is involved in everything that he can to support the city and the education and athletics; he’s a good resource.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: “I would love to go to Italy. When my wife and I were dating, her sister was doing a study abroad and she got to go over there for a week. And she came back with just amazing stories. So it’s always just been on my list of places I’d like to go.”

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?

A: “Know what your goals, know what your purpose is, know the things that are important to you and stay true to those and committed to those…know what they are and always make sure the decisions that you make are in line with those goals.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: “Win the state championship at Gainesville.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?

A: “Right here in Gainesville. Hopefully having knocked off that bucket list.”

Q: What is your favorite music or three bands that you would like to listen to?

A: “My kids have gotten me into Imagine Dragons lately. Also my wife and I, we listen to a lot of stuff on vinyl these days.”

Q: What three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: “Comfort, Relaxing and Warmth.”
