Interview by Gainesville High School Junior and Abernathy Cochran Intern Kate Willis

Meet Michael Wofford! Michael was born and raised in Hall County and will celebrate 25 years working as a broadcaster at 97.5-FM Glory Family Radio Station in Gainesville November 18th. He has an inspiring life story including being a Georgia sports fanatic, devoted Christian, and also overcoming the obstacle of losing his eyesight at a young age.

That’s my story, I was supposed to have been gone 15 years ago but God’s got me here for what I do at the radio station with the people I work with, trying to serve the community,” he said.

Mike attended the University of Georgia but graduated from the University of North Georgia. When he was 25, he was declared legally blind. From that point forward he continued his passions in radio as a broadcaster for several years around Northeast Georgia.

We want to thank Mike for telling us more about life and love of Hall County.

Question: Where do you go to church?

Answer: “Flat Creek Baptist Church. My wife Janet was born and raised there; it’s where we got married, and her dad is the pastor there.”

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County, and what do you love there?

A: “We have a great relationship with Tim Bunch, the owner of Longstreet Cafe. He gets advertising, and we get food. My wife and I also love Red Lobster; it’s where we went on our first date.”

Q: What is your favorite thing at Longstreet?

A: “The chicken tenders. A few years ago Tim said, ‘try this.’ I said it was okay. Then he said, ‘okay, now try this.’ I picked the batter I liked and that’s the recipe he uses now for the chicken tenders. It was his ‘blind taste test’ as he called it.”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Hall County?

A: “I was born and raised here.”

Q: Who is the most interesting sports person that you’ve ever interviewed?

A: “This past Saturday I interviewed Tony Lotti who was a former head football coach at West Hall. He’s a great guy and had a great testimony about all he did.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: “I would love to take my wife to Hawaii. Back in 1989 my family went on a trip to Hawaii, and I saw the most gorgeous sunset I’ve ever seen in my life. I want her to experience that and explain it to me through her eyes and tell me what she sees.”

Q: What is your favorite gospel music or band?

A: “I’d probably choose Karen Peck. I went to school with her and have interviewed her before. I’d also probably pick Stanley Pierce. He raises money for Saint Jude and is a great singer.”

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: “Live your life the best you can today because you’re not promised tomorrow.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?

A: “The fact that I was born and raised here is probably the best thing about Hall County. It’s a family type of county.”
