College football season is Eli Ligon’s favorite time of year! The local middle schooler has a love of college football, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He’s been a lifelong Alabama fan and has had the opportunity several times to meet players and coaches from the University of Alabama. Currently, Eli says, his favorite Alabama player is quarterback Blake Barnett.
“I’ve gotten to meet him several times and we communicate and I guess that’s one of the reasons I like him because I actually know him,” he said.
Eli, 13, is an eighth grader at Gainesville Middle School and is an avid golfer and golfs for the middle school team. He said his favorite course locally is Chattahoochee Golf Club.
“My favorite hole is probably 12, it’s a par 3 and downhill so it’s easy to hit the green,” he said.
Recently, Eli completed treatment after being diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in March of this year.
“I’m feeling a lot better and just started to get my energy back and play sports again. I’m on the golf team and next fall, I plan to play lacrosse,” he said.
