Mike Miller has been a resident of Hall County since 2004 after relocating from Newnan. Mike lives in the Flowery Branch community of Sterling on the Lake and loves it. He says it reminds him of the neighborhood he grew up in; a “true community”. Mike is a Golf Pro at the Orchard in Clarkesville and he is also the Mayor of Flowery Branch.
Recently, we asked Mike a few questions about his life, likes and interests to share with fellow members of our community.
Question: If you could only eat at one place for an entire week in Hall County, where would it be?
Answer: Moonie’s BBQ in Flowery Branch.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Hall County?
A: The most interesting person Mike has met in Hall County is Phil Niekro, his baseball hero growing up. Not only has Mike had the opportunity to meet him, they have become friends. Recently, Mike threw out the first pitch at a Gwinnett Braves Game and passed Mr. Niekro while walking out to the mound. Mr. Niekro said to him, “Don’t throw it in the dirt, Mr. Mayor.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere right now, where would it be?
A: Hawaii
Q: What song reminds you of Hall County?
A: Zac Brown’s Homegrown
Q: When have you felt the most satisfied in your life?
A: “Professionally, when I passed the playing ability test for the PGA to become a Golf Pro.”
Q: What is your favorite social outing in Gainesville?
A: The Summer Concert Series at Sterling on the Lake
Q: Do you have a favorite sandwich?
A: Mike answered, “A Knuckle Sandwich” and we both laughed. He then responded, “A Brisket Sandwich on a King’s Hawaiian Roll, from Firehouse Subs.”
Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing or your favorite movie?
A: “The first movie in the theatre was Star Wars. But my favorite movie is Tin Cup.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Two things: Say thank you more than you think you should. And, say I love you to everyone you love; you may not get a chance to say it again.”
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone, alive and a non-relative, who would it be?
A: “The Pope.”
- Why? “Because I am Catholic and he intrigues me.”
- If another seat opened up-who would join you? “George W. Bush”
- Where would you have this lunch? “Antebellum in Flowery Branch”
- If lunch cancelled, where would you take them to dinner? “Chick-fil-a”
