Faces of Hall County: Will Dyer“I’m cool in awkward situations,” is just one of the endearing things First Baptist Church Associate Pastor Will Dyer said to describe himself. Will is well read, well educated and quite funny. Among some of his interests are music acts like Tupac, Phish, Third Eye Blind and Snoop Dogg at Coachella; and in the next breath he quoted Abraham Heschel, a rabbi and one of the leading Jewish theologians and Jewish philosophers of the 20th century.
Will holds a doctorate from Mercer and he also attended the University of Georgia. He has lived in Hall County for most of his life. He lives here with his wife Sara, who is a dentist, and two daughters.
We thank Will for taking the time to answer some questions about his life, interests, and love of God to share with fellow members of our community.
Question: If you could only eat at one place for an entire week in Hall County, where would it be?
Answer: “The basement at Poor Richards. It has to be the basement. Eat-At-Thai is good too.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met here in Hall County?
A: “Ed Parks. He is the greatest story teller I have ever met. He built the first house on Holly Drive.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
A: “I have asked my grandpa this before and he said ‘The United States of America,’ before I go anywhere else I want to see America.”
Q: What is your favorite sandwich?
A: “Turkey on a roll from Inn-Between”
Q: What song reminds you of Hall County?
A: “Any David Allan Coe or old country artist’s song.”
Q: If you had my job, what question would you ask?
A: “A friend of mine who lived in Africa for most of his life said that when he moved back to America, people always ask ‘What do you do for a living?’ But what people should ask is, ‘Tell me about your family.’
Q: When have you felt the most satisfied with your life?
A: “Now. I wake up every day and think, ‘I get to go to work.'”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Relax. All will be well.”
Q: Choosing anyone, non-relative: with whom would you love to have lunch with?
A: “Barak Obama. I think he has intellectual depth. I don’t agree with him on everything but I think he is doing his best. If someone else could join us I would like it to be the Pope. We would go to Eat-At-Thai for lunch. If lunch cancelled, I would take them to the Monkey Barrel for dinner.”
