The co-owners of OBA are Elizabeth Esteves and Kathleen Canavan-Lima and they began their food truck a little over a year ago.
“Elizabeth and I have been friends for 17 years. We both share a common love for Brazilian food, culture and music,” Kathleen said. “We spoke about ways in which we could share this passion with others. Three years ago, we started making and perfecting our specialty cheese bread, pão de queijo. Our friends and family raved about them so we thought, let’s start there. We came up with our name, logo, label, and started knocking on doors. Green’s Grocery has been successfully selling our breads not only to their gluten allergy customers but their regular customers looking for a delicious, healthy snack.”
Once the bread was a hit the duo moved on to planning their food truck launch.
“About two years ago, Beth and I attended a local event that featured a food truck. The wheels in both of our minds were spinning. We realized in an instant that that was what we were going to do. We would run a food truck that featured authentic Brazilian Churrasco (barbecue),” added Kathleen. “We knew we had something that no one else had and we knew it was something that had to be shared.
“The very next day we were searching for a food truck. With the support and hard work of our husbands, we were open for business three months later, May 2017.”
The OBA menu is unique and happy customers in Hall County rave about the kebabs, empanadas and other savory treats.
“Our patrons have a choice of tender picanha beef or boneless chicken breast wrapped in bacon served on individual skewers. We have combo plates with choice of yucca fries (gluten free). Our empanadas (pastels) are a huge favorite! Light crispy dough stuffed with either ground beef, shredded chicken or cheese. Our Brazilian rice is all the rage. We have people who come to our truck and ask for our rice…some even ask for the recipe!,” she said.
The fresh pão de queijo is always served hot right out of the oven. OBA also has vegetarian and gluten free options.
OBA can be found locally at events during food truck season from March-December.
“We’ve been fortunate to participate in Tap It Growlers Food Truck Friday once a month. We also participate in Food Truck Friday at the Olympic Park venue. Throughout the season we look for events to participate in. We’ve also had the honor of being featured in Georgia Magazine and were recently voted Best of Hall County!”
