Meet Robert McCue! Robert is the chef at Yellow Fin, just off the downtown Gainesville square. He is married to Kelly and the couple has a 6 year old daughter, Lorilai. Robert said when he’s not creating dishes at Yellow Fin, you can catch him at home grilling pork ribs.
We want to thank Robert for recently telling us more about his life and love of Hall County.
Question: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Answer: “I’m married to my beautiful stay at home wife Kelly who helps raise our super smart 6 year old daughter Lorilai. They are my whole life and I look forward to seeing them every night after work.”
Q: What is your favorite dish to make at home?
A: “I keep it simple with BBQ pork ribs and grilled corn and baked beans. But if called upon, I can create whatever you like! I have dabbled in pretty much everything.”
Q: What lead you to your current career?
A: “Just like my love of music and playing music, cooking came naturally to me…just a love of the arts in general.”
Q: What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “I like to take my family to Recess for Chef Austin’s fine cuisine for date night out and we love Senor Fiesta!”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “Joshua Tree,Calif. My favorite musician is Gram Parsons, who used to spend lot of time out there.”
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: “‘The Shining’ and my wife enjoy ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’ and ‘Mom.'”
Q: If you were asked to give advice to a group of people, what would you say?
A: “Don’t sweat the small stuff. Life’s too short.”
Q: If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
A: “‘The King of Queens!'”
Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
A: “My wives Grandmother, who has passed, but was quite a wonderful woman and who I had great conversations with. At my restaurant, of course. I work with such a skilled staff that makes everyone feel at home.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about our community?
A: “A growing city that retains a small town feel…Been here most of my life!”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “At almost 50 years old, spending quality time with my family and still pursuing my love of food and music.”
Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
A: “Wow, hard question..,probably Harry Nilsson, Emitt Rhodes or Nick Drake.”
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: “October.. Halloween and Christmas, my birthday!”
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: “Sleep.. I love to dream.”
Q: What is something you want to do when the pandemic is over?
A: “See a concert.”
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “My daughter, she is my inspiration.”
