Meet Kristy Davies and Jennifer Hothem! Kristy and Jennifer partnered together about a year ago with Davies Hothem Injury Law. They both are wives and mothers and are active in our community.

We want to thank Kristy and Jennifer for spending time with us recently and telling us more about their life and love of Hall County.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your family and why you became a lawyer?

Kristy: ““I am married and I have three kids, ages seven, four and three. I became a lawyer because I wanted to help people in practical and tangible ways. I cannot just sit and wait. When a new client calls after a serious injury and cannot pay their hospital or surgery bills, or is permanently injured and cannot care for their family, I can get to work immediately and nothing can stop me until I get that recovery. I have this ‘ready, set, go mentality.’ Give me a job and I’ll not only get it done, but I’ll do it right. ‘Doing it right’ is our biggest priority and in and of itself, singlehandedly sets us apart from other personal injury firms.”

Jennifer: “I am married with three kids, ages 7,14, and 17. They are all very different and fabulous in their own ways. My husband is also a lawyer, but also does a good deal of work in the residential rental industry. We have a pretty hectic life. Lots of extracurricular activities, and projects everywhere, but we always have a lot of fun.
“I became a lawyer because I just knew I had to do something with people. I always talked my head off as a young person and knew whatever I did was going to involve talking. I think I can agree with Kristy that I wanted to help people. The law can be really cold and I wanted to bring something personal to my clients, I wanted to let them know they’re a person, not just a case, and that I hear them.”

Q: When did you start your practice together?

Kristy:  “I’ve been practicing for 12 years now, but we started our own firm last September. I started my own practice because as a wife, mother and lawyer, I have a lot of hats to wear. With my own practice, I can wear all three of those hats in a way that is fulfilling to both my family and my clients. We really focus on serious injury cases.”

Q: What are some of your favorite restaurants in Gainesville?

Kristy: “I will say my new favorite is Standard Service. I really like their cocktails and I think it’s just fun to have new tons of outdoor casual seating.”

Jennifer: “I am a big foodie so I can tell you, I love almost all the restaurants in Gainesville. Each one has a favorite menu item. I have to say as far as Mexican food, Senor Fiesta by Kroger is frequently visited. They have the best shrimp ceviche and the best skinny margarita you’re going to find anywhere. I recently tried Consuelo, and that is a whole different level of amazing. And of course, Eat at Thai is a total go to. You cannot go wrong there. .”

Q: What is one of your favorite things about Hall County?

Kristy: “I love our community, I feel like we live in a big small town. I feel like everywhere we go, whether it’s the people at the grocery store at Publix, my husband and I know the people that work there, most of them by the name, Diane every time, love her. I just feel like we just live in a place where everybody is your friend.”

Jennifer: “I love watching it grow. I grew up in Flowery Branch. Then it was a one stop light town, and now it is growing with a really cool event venues, restaurants, etc. Gainesville has always been a city, but now it is starting to feel like a CITY with so many fun things to do for all kinds of different folks. It’s just been really cool to see the county grow.”

Q: What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Kristy: “’The Lion King.’”

Jennifer: “’Forrest Gump.’ I think I was in kindergarten. My dad really wanted to see it.”

Q: What are some of your favorite bands? Like three go-to bands you or artists that you like to listen to?

Kristy: “Jason Isbell, Shane Smith and the Saints and Larkin Poe.”

Jennifer: “I still love Backstreet Boys and my new favorite country singer is probably Morgan Wallen.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

Kristy: “To dive the Great Barrier Reef. Diving is something my husband and I really enjoy doing together.”

Jennifer: “I’ve always wanted to go out to Arizona, or somewhere out West, and go canyon repelling, or rock climbing; even though I don’t know how to do either of those things.”

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be and where would you go in Gainesville?

Kristy: “My grandmother, Bettye, and she would definitely like Longstreet Café.”

Jennifer: “I would want to go with Queen Elizabeth I. She had to overcome so many obstacles, a lot of stereotypes, and learn how to outwit those who wanted to see her removed for a multitude of reasons. I’d love for her to see what the world has become today, and wonder what her thoughts are. I would take her somewhere like The Collegiate and say ‘let’s get you a Slaw Dog.’”

Q: If you could go anywhere to travel right now, where would you go?

Kristy: “I’ll never say no to Europe or anywhere else tropical. The Maldives and Bora Bora seem dreamy.”

Jennifer: “I want to go to Mallorca. It is in the Balearic Islands, which are right off the coast of Spain. There are lots of shipwrecks that you can go dive in beautiful crystal clear waters and sandy beaches. It has almost an Arizona like feel the closer inland you get. The coast is like California meets the Caribbean.”

Q: If you could pick someone to play yourself in a movie?

Kristy: “Julia Roberts, although I’ve been told I favor Jessica Biel.”

Jennifer: “I’ve been told I favored Jessica Biel when younger. I guess in looks, probably have to say either Victoria Justice or Minka Kelly. People tell me I look like Gina Davis.”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite smells?

Kristy: “Coconut and sea salt. I love the candles from Porch Sense. And the smell of a clean house is never disappointing.

Jennifer: “I think I like Teak Wood and Vanilla Chai, that warm scent that makes you feel good. Probably lavender or that fresh laundry smell.”

Q: What would you rate 10 out of 10?

Kristy: “A 10-hour day on the beach with a book.”

Jennifer: “I’d have to say 10 out of 10 is a cool day where you get up, get a good walk or jog in to get your heart rate up enough to feel warm; then come home inside, put on a big robe, get some popcorn, and watch a movie.”
