Interview by Abernathy Cochran Real Estate Group intern Grady Vardeman
Meet Officer Zach Lowery! Zach is an officer with the Gainesville Police Department and he lives in Sautee Nacoochee. Zach was recently featured on the Gainesville Police Department’s Facebook page for an act of kindness when he helped a pastor broken down on I-985 get to church on a Sunday morning.
We want to thank Officer Lowery for recently sitting down with us and telling us more about his life and love of the area.
Question: How long have you worked with the Gainesville Police Department?
Answer: “I’ve been here for seven years before this I was at the White County sheriff’s department previously.”
Q: Do you have any siblings?
A: “I have six brothers and a 6’2 mom who didn’t play around.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant?
A: “My favorite restaurant actually isn’t even in Hall County. It’s called Wild Egg in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s an American/Mexican place and they have a breakfast burrito done with cheese dip. You might say eww, best thing I’ve ever had.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now where would it be? And why?
A: “I have two places actually, Ireland and Banff, Canada. Banff has a big national park and it’s just absolutely beautiful.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “To love me or anyone else, you must first love yourself.”
Q: Do you have anything on your bucket list?
A: “I actually don’t have a bucket list, I just try to go with the flow.”
Q: Where do see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “Still living in Sautee Nacoochee, I don’t have much planned, so just enjoying family as much as I can.”
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you.
A: “I’m a very secretive person, and that I love to cook. I actually went to school to cook at North Georgia Tech in the culinary program. I always wanted to be a cop and wanted to do a job that would be around till the end, but also something that could put a smile on someone’s face. Then I realized I didn’t need a degree to cook and that’s when I decided to be a cop.
“Also, in the back of my mind, I thought once I retire from here I could open up a restaurant or do whatever I want with that.”
Q: What three words or phrases that come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “God, love, and family.”
Q: What are three bands you’d like to see (dead or alive)?
A: “You can never leave out the Beastie Boys, then I’m going to take it in the other direction and say Michael Jackson, last but not least, I’d have to say, Elvis.”
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: “I don’t have any kids, but I’d still go with a nanny. I say that because I grew up with a nanny and she raised all of us and at the end of the day I give a lot of my success to her.”
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had the choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: “Samuel L Jackson or Denzel Washington, but we have to get Morgan Freeman involved if we’re making the movie.”
