Philip McQueen:  Christian, husband, father, and pioneer of Mavuno Ministries in Uganda, Africa.   Philip has served in leadership roles in churches in Hall County, South Georgia, and in Phillip McQueenFlorida.  His family has returned to Riverbend Baptist as their home church.  For the last 18 years Philip has travelled back and forth between home and Tororo, Uganda, Africa.

During travel in Africa, Philip felt lead to share God and to help those in need.  Currently his ministry is helping 76 children and 80 women. Mavuno Ministries sets out to establish a strong Christian influence in places with great need.  They serve these people through education and assistance to improve their standard of living. For the children in their care they provide free education, clothing, and medical care.  The average income in Tororo is 3 cents per day.  They are teaching skills to women to help them sew and make jewelry.  They have also installed many water filters in village homes.   McQueen says he has made genuine relationships with the people over there, “when I go to Africa I feel like I am home” says Philip.

Q: When have you felt the most satisfied in your life?
A: “The second or third time I went to Uganda, I was starting to wonder if I was even making a difference. I realized I was making a difference when I was walking towards a village and up on a hill I saw a young man jumping up and down trying to get my attention. He said ‘I have been waiting all day for you to come tell me about Jesus’.”

Q: What piece of advice would you give to a crowd of people?
A: “Follow where God tells you to go, listen to Him, remain true to who you are, and lead someone else.”

Q:  What former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Hall County?
A:  Greenway’s Grocery on Old Cornelia Highway.  My very 1st job was here working as a bag boy.  Mr. Greenway (Dana) kept us moving!

Q: If you could choose one person (alive and non-relative) to have lunch or dinner with, who would you choose?  And where in Hall County would you take them?
A:  My best friend Keith.  He is an amazing human being and my brother from another mother!  Keith is one of my biggest cheerleaders and there is no one besides my family who I had rather have lunch with.  We would go to Quillian’s Grill, which is one of my favorite places in Hall County.

Q:  What is your favorite movie?
A:  My favorite movie is The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.  The movie stars Ingrid Bergman and is the life story of Missionary Gladys Alyward.  This is such an awesome movie……and, of course anything with John Wayne is right up there also.
