Lifelong Hall County resident Steven Ellis says his favorite part about the Hall County community is the people.
“I hate to sound cliché but my favorite thing by far about our community is the people of Hall County. If you just go out and search, you will find some of the most interesting folks,” he said. “People who truly know me would tell you that I can get to talking to a complete stranger for hours on just about any topic; from honey bees to moonshine. We’re truly blessed to have a melting pot of different backgrounds all living in our area.”
He added that he thinks our area will see lots of changes in the next five to 10 years.
“Outside of the natural expansion of the metro area further north into Hall County, I can definitely see a lot of the areas which have corridors, such as the Limestone Parkway/U.S. 129 area, seeing a lot of growth. With that growth comes new employment opportunities for all ages and demographics,” Ellis said. “…My biggest wish is that Hall County would go through a major tech renaissance and become more of a Charlotte or Greenville as far as different industries. I also would love to see more beer breweries take root in Hall County.”
Ellis, a University of Georgia graduate, current Gainesville Jaycees board member and Jaycee of the Year in 2013, volunteers much of his time to local organizations and causes.
“I do spend a large portion of my time helping out with the great nonprofits we have in our area. From United Way Hall County, to being on the Board of Directors for the Gainesville Jaycees and the Friends of Don Carter State Park Group, to the Georgia Barbecue Championship board; I enjoy being involved and helping out.”
Currently, the Gainesville Jaycees are preparing for one of their biggest and dearest volunteer efforts of the year: the Empty Stocking Fund.
The Empty Stocking Fund provides Christmas gifts to more than 200 Hall County children, that otherwise would not receive Christmas gifts.
Right now, there are still tickets available to provide funds for the program, which are in the form of raffle tickets. You can buy one ticket for $20, three for $50, five for $75, 10 for $140 and 20 for $250. The grand prize is a $3,500, $1,000 or $500 Visa gift card. Tickets can be purchased at Tap IT, JR Criders, Senior Fiesta and Dress Up in Gainesville.
Pick up your tickets soon to support this great community project.
