Meet Ava White. Since she was in middle school, knowledge and learning have been her passion. After attending Furman, Peabody, and then UGA, she returned to Gainesville and began pursuing her career in education. You might recognize her name from her educational center, Ava White Academy and Tutorials. “Our school serves children with mild learning challenges. Our tutorials range from helping with term papers to the ACT and SAT,” she says.ava-white

Question: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
Answer: “I’ve always enjoyed working with kids with learning challenges. It has always been an interest of mine.”
 
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County, and what do you love there?
A: “Luna’s.  I like their salmon.”
 
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Hall County?
A: “60+ years.”
 
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Hall County?
A: “Gordon Sawyer. He was a multi-talented man. He could write books, form companies-he did all sorts of things.”
 
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: “Hawaii.  I want to see the volcanoes and Pearl Harbor. It’s just a beautiful place.”
 
Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
A: “Sleeping Beauty.”
 
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Education is of utmost importance. We must improve education for both teachers and students.”
 
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “To travel around the world to places I’ve never been.”
 
Q: What is your favorite music/ 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: “The Beatles, Andy Grammar, and Train”
 
Q: What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Hall County?
A: “Green’s Grocery.  Green’s reminds me of the days with great personal service.”
 
Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative: with whom would you love to have lunch?  Why this person?  Where in Hall County would you take them?
A: “Laura Bush.  She really promoted reading and literacy when her husband was in office.  I would take her to Scott’s or Luna’s.”
 
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?
A: “Lake Lanier and the people here.”
 
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “Possibly retired or still here at Ava White Tutorials.”
 
Q: (Even for friends or family), What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I used to be a master swimmer.”
